Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover

Mistakes are part of everyday life. Some are insignificant and minor, but there are also such mistakes whose weight marks a person for the rest of their lives. Neither remorse nor apologies erase the damage caused. After some mistakes, it’s hard to continue with life….

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover is all about such mistakes. That is the story of our heroine Kenna Rowan. Getting out of prison after serving her sentence for a tragic accident in the past., she is faced with her biggest fears. She immediately heads to the town where everyone hates her. Reluctant at doing so, yet determined because that is the place where her daughter lives. She is willing to go through hell if necessary.

Moreover, she will deal with the hatred that has been simmering in the townspeople since Scotty’s death, just to be close to her daughter. Without a job, without a roof over her head, and without money, she doesn’t know where to start. Being afraid of the unknown future that awaits her is a simple understatement. Her fear is justified, as all the people in Diem’s life have no intention of letting her get close. All but Ledger Ward.

Ledger owns a bar, and when he sees Kenna at his door, something inside him awakens. He doesn’t recognize her right away and that allowed him to see what kind of person she is, without prejudice. However, when he realizes that the person in front of him is responsible for his best friend’s death, he immediately retreats. He is an important part of Diem’s life, as the little girl is the most important person in his life. Furthermore, he has no intention of losing that important connection. But no one can resist the pulls of the heart. Try as hard as one might, the heart always wins.

Kenna is aware of the attraction between them that grows slowly, but she is also aware of her past and its burden. How can it be redeemed? She can’t bring Scotty’s life back, but will she be able to convince them to hear her story? Her truth brings a different perspective. Will her story even matter to them when their hearts are still bleeding ever since that day?

To begin with, the beginning of the book is calm, there are no twists that will surprise you, but every single word hurts. Hoover tackles (as in all her books) a really serious subject that opens many questions and room for discussion.

And as you read, you agree with each character and understand their perspectives. The reader will be on everyone’s side and honestly won’t be able to answer how they would act in their place because no one knows how they would behave in such situations.

But I’m sure of one thing – Kenna and Scotty’s love is true, rare, and unconditional, and definitely, in some other universe they are back together and have more time to nurture that beautiful love and connection.

Undoubtedly, the story has some excellent character-building. Matching Hoover’s well-known and irresistible style. And the storyline is so captivating. I simply couldn’t let it go, I was so engrossed in the story that I was unaware of the world around me. I read it till late in the night and the ending destroyed me. Literally. That last sentence broke my heart into a million pieces.

Reminders of Him by Colleen Hoover may not be my favorite book, but I can’t tell you how warm and special the story is. One of the few that will remain in my memory. If you are looking for an emotional story that will rip your heart, this is a great choice.
