***My Review***

Whitney, My Love is a historical romance novel that follows the story of Whitney Stone, a young, independent lady who finally falls in love with Clayton Westmoreland, the ruthless Duke of Claymore. But, their path to happiness is really difficult. At a period when women had very little agency or autonomy, the novel, set in 19th-century England, examines the complexity of love, power, and class.

Whitney is a little girl living up in the English countryside when the tale begins. She is free-spirited and adventurous, with a passion for horses and adventure. When she meets Paul, she is immediately drawn to him, despite the fact that he is many years her senior and appears to disapprove of her unusual behavior.

Whitney believes that as she gets older, her feelings for Paul become stronger. He, on the other hand, regards her as a juvenile nuisance and has no desire to pursue a relationship with her.

Her father sends her to France, where she stays with her aunt in an effort to become a respectable woman, as a result of her behavior. To everyone’s amazement, she not only becomes a lady but also becomes an immediate hit in French society, catching the eye of one of Europe’s most eligible bachelors.

But who will manage to capture her heart?

I have never before experienced a book that sent me on such an emotional whirlwind. I had tears in my eyes the moment after feeling enraged and wanting to hurl this book across the room. Then, exactly 10 minutes later, with tears in my eyes, I’m back to being furious. The Duke of Claymore was obviously the target of my desire to strike someone with this book, not someone else. Never have I had such strong feelings for a hero… I both adored and despised him. He repulsed me and intimidated me, yet someway he managed to win my affection.

One of the strengths of this novel is the way that McNaught creates complex, multi-dimensional characters. Whitney is a strong and independent heroine who refuses to be tamed by anyone, while Clayton is a powerful and enigmatic man who is driven by a deep sense of honor and duty. McNaught does an excellent job of exploring the power dynamics between men and women in this time period, and she creates a powerful and empowering story of a woman who defies the odds and fights for her happiness.

On the other hand, my heart was won over by Whitney’s feisty, passionate, and eccentric attitude right away. She is young and innocent, which is understandable given that the story is historical. She surprised me with her sass, vigor, and wit. She goes to great measures to please Paul, a guy ten years older than her, whom she believes to be the love of her life.

The romance in the novel is both passionate and intense. McNaught is a talented writer who can create steamy love scenes that are both sensual and romantic. The chemistry between Whitney and Clayton is palpable, and their relationship will keep readers on the edge of their seats.

McNaught excels at building tension and chemistry between her characters, and the slow burn of their relationship is both believable and satisfying. This love story will leave you swooning and wishing for your own Duke.

Furthermore, the way that McNaught weaves historical details into the narrative is masterful. She paints a vivid picture of life in 19th-century England, from the elaborate social events to the rigid class structure. The world-building is immersive and well-crafted, and the reader will feel as though they have been transported back in time.

However, the novel is not without its flaws. Some readers may find the book too long and the pacing of the story to be slow, particularly in the first half of the book.

While scary at 700 pages, I assure you that it reads swiftly and keeps you engaged through to the very end. I can’t emphasize that enough. There was joy, suffering, anxiety, turbulence, etc. While some sequences were incredibly beautiful and sweeping, others were quite heartbreaking and readily opened the floodgates.

Additionally, the portrayal of male characters in the novel has been criticized by some readers. While Clayton is a complex and compelling character, some of the other male characters are portrayed as domineering and controlling, which can be frustrating for readers who are looking for more nuanced representations of men.

In conclusion, Whitney, My Love is a classic historical romance novel that has captivated readers for over three decades. McNaught’s vivid characters, compelling plot, and steamy love scenes make this book a must-read for fans of the genre. While there are some flaws in the novel, overall it is a wonderful and engaging story of a woman who fights for her happiness in a world that is determined to keep her down.
