The Game by Vi Keeland

After so many mysteries, thrillers, and historical fiction, I needed to relax with a sweet and swoony romance. And it was not difficult at all for me to choose what to read. If you want a relaxed and irresistible romance, with a perfect balance of everything, Vi Keeland is an author who will not disappoint.

An ordinary day turns into chaos when Bella gets the surprise of her life. A father she didn’t even know existed left her a very unusual inheritance. She is now the proud part-owner of a professional football team.

She is a statistics genius, how hard can it be to learn everything about managing a football team? Well, that game is all about statistics, isn’t it? Piece of cake for our smart heroine.

But when a incredibly sexy and irresistible quarterback enters the stats, the story takes a completely new course of events. One brash quarterback who simply caresses her with his eyes and confuses her with all his attention and kind words.

Some humorous banter, a little bit of bickering, and a lot of flirting… What happens when attraction clouds all other feelings and senses? When two young people cannot resist the urge of getting closer?

I love Vi Keeland’s books and I’ve said many times that when I’m out of inspiration and don’t know what to choose to read, I usually reach for one of her books knowing I will certainly get a captivating story.

The Game by Vi Keeland was a balm for my tired soul after a busy day. A light, enjoyable office romance about two completely opposite people who somehow manage to find enough common ground to be able to form a friendship. A friendship that is slowly turning into something much more.

But somehow as you read, The Game by Vi Keeland feels much more than an ordinary office romance. There are several moments that touch you with their emotionality, the destinies of the two characters that you slowly get to know with all their flaws and virtues, their thoughts…..

And that was exactly the appeal of this book, in the interesting combination, each of them with a different background and yet with the same desires and needs.

Moreover, there were also no shallow dialogues, the pace of the narration was to my liking, and I genuinely liked the characters.

As I mentioned, the characters were solidly built. Christian is the typical sexy quarterback, smooth-talking, with his slightly immature approach, and completely irresistible personality. Admittedly, he was a bit stereotypical and over-the-top at times.

Unlike him, I liked that the heroine is a nerdy girl, a math genius with a slightly different way of thinking than what we are used to. Bella was a refreshing and enchanting character with a quirky and lovable personality. I love strong female characters who defy obstacles and aren’t desperate to fall into someone’s arms right away.

Furthermore, the development of their relationship was emotional enough to satisfy the romantic in me. It was also presented in a very charming manner, with sweetly humorous bickering and interesting antics. And the intimate moments between them were….. scorching hot.

The Game by Vi Keeland has a solidly dramatic plot with enough emotion and action to make your imagination run loose. Yet enough twists and turns to keep you from getting bored, all seasoned with a healthy dose of humor and more than enough spice. As in all her works, the author touches on serious topics, which gives the book an inevitable depth.

But also the inevitable slow burn that keeps you in suspense and makes you impatiently turn the pages, persistently trying to reach the desired end as soon as possible.

All in all a fantastic choice for a relaxed afternoon read. Two opposite characters, witty banter, lots of sweet moments, a couple of hilarious ones, and a story that will capture you between its pages until the very end.
If you want a light, yet meaningful book in which the story still has a background and interesting build-up, I recommend The Game by Vi Keeland. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
