Ice Burn by L.A. Cotton

Some loves can never be forgotten! Especially not when they come completely unexpectedly, with an intensity that has the power to change everything around…
Two unusual personalities who cannot fit anywhere… And an exceptional love that unites them…

The loss of her brother plunged Dayna into the depths of grief. Torn by pain, she leaves her hometown and goes to Boston to study. Maybe distance has the power to heal her wounds. Or at least she will be able to hide her sadness?

Graduation makes her want to return home to her parents’ house. Accompanied by her boyfriend, she returns to her small town. She faces his reality. But also gains an insight that some choices are completely wrong. The current boyfriend is just one in a row. Mr. Right becomes Mr. Wrong…

She stays alone, but is not lonely, and tries to accept the things that cannot be changed. But life brings new surprises in the form of a handsome cocky guy who manages to awaken something in her at first glance.

Several encounters, interesting clashes, and sadness slowly begin to disappear. A fire ignites her feelings and we slowly get to know the real Dayna. The one who has enough strength to tame this bad boy and overcome her trauma.
One night is enough for everything. But that very night brings desires and appetites that both characters cannot resist.

Honestly, lately, I’ve been avoiding YA books, even though they sometimes manage to surprise and touch me. The storyline in Ice Burn by L.A. Cotton is interesting and quite emotional, and the characters are colorful and solidly built.
I rarely pay attention to the blurbs before reading, maybe that’s why I had a completely different idea about the story, and that’s why I was surprised at the end.

I expected some interesting cat-and-mouse games, fights, and conflicts on all sides. But Ice Burn by L.A. Cotton is quite compelling, with a large number of funny moments and an abundance of emotions.

That instant attraction, love, or whatever it’s called is something that’s rarely on my reading menu. I wasn’t impressed here either, I prefer elaborate stories with enough time devoted to the development of emotions and mutual attachment. But considering it’s a really short book, there honestly wasn’t enough time to fit all the details.

As I already mentioned, the characters are quite solidly built, although at times there is a trace of stereotypes. The supporting characters like Dayna’s parents are great and super integrated into the whole story.

Ice Burn by L.A. Cotton is typical NA and you should keep that in mind. In terms of what I mentioned earlier, this book touches on more topics that concern younger people – stepping into a different world that comes after high school, and discovering yourself. If I had been at that age, I believe that I would have found myself much more in the circumstances that the characters had, but this way I was just an observer and I didn’t even manage to find the younger “me” in the whole situation.

But on the other hand, it also covers quite serious topics such as the loss of a loved one, dealing with grief, and facing life after loss. These are topics that concern the entire population. And the author has inserted them quite nicely, in such a subtle and fine way.

Either way, I will say that if you like NA books, give it a go. It is worth reading. Ice Burn by L.A. Cotton is an emotional journey of accepting loss and finding love and support to move on with life.
