*****My Review*****

Deception by K. Webster

My favorite thing to do when it comes to duets, trilogies, or connected parts of a series is to read them after all the parts are out. Cliffhangers are perfect, but only if you know you’ll be able to pick up the next book right away, right?

Three powerful brothers, one naive target, how hard can it be? A perfect plan, but the realization is lost halfway, the passions culminate, the masks fall, the emotions intensify… In the end, everything turns into an erotic storm that sweeps the readers in from the very beginning.

Sparrow, Sully, and Scout – the terror triplets that rule New York. Violence, intimidation and cruelty are their familiar tools, and success is almost always guaranteed. But every story has to come to the end…

Before them stands a new challenge, much deeper and more complicated than all the previous ones. Laundry Croft is a famous heiress, quite reclusive and well protected. And their task is to infiltrate all the layers of her life. Her trust is the key to the solution. But how to gain it is the right question.

The dice are cast, the seduction is turned to maximum and the trap is ready. But will the triplets succeed this time? Maybe some surprise will appear along the way that they are not ready for…

As I mentioned at the beginning, Deception by K. Webster is composed of two books, Triple Threat and Death Wish, which the author has previously published. And although this type of book is not what I usually read, I wanted to give it a go, just to see what it is that attracts others.

Besides, getting out of the comfort zone isn’t a bad thing, is it?

It is hard to write a review for this book without giving too much away. Honestly, I feel like I’ve gone in a different direction than I’m used to and feel kind of confused. Undoubtedly, I don’t know how to describe everything I’m thinking.

I’ll start with the author’s style, rich, yet clear and easy to follow, and intense enough to hold your attention. She has an interesting approach of holding attention at certain moments by presenting several paragraphs of one scene one after the other, which emphasize the atmosphere, the description, and the action. Definitely, it was especially effective with the steamy scenes.

Furthermore, we follow the story from multiple perspectives, but somehow they are all synchronized and can be followed without any problem. And even though the whole story can be felt from multiple angles, it contains enough twists to keep you in the dark until the very end. As you turn the pages, you feel like you are uncovering new layers, one by one, discovering new pieces of information but the end is still far away.

Honestly, I was bothered by the existence of references to some previous actions that I didn’t quite understand. Some background story ran through the pages and I had no idea what it was about. I later discovered that it has a connection to the Cinderella trilogy and my recommendation is to read it first, before venturing into this dark world.

It must be admitted that the characters are quite solidly built. The three brothers are simply bewitching, handsome with that famous bad-boy vibe and dangerous at the same time. Not to mention their sexy and cocky approach. Harsh on the edges, but sweet inside. But somehow through the pages, their characters develop further. They encounter situations for which they are not ready and feel things that they did not even expect.

Laundry, at first glance, seems quite naive and somewhat overprotected. But following the story, we learn that she has experienced enough darkness in her existence and has sufficient wisdom to trust her instincts. Honestly, I liked her character just the way she is.

To be completely honest, this type of romance is not really to my taste. Somehow I fail to fully enjoy stories that are labelled as a harem, reverse harem, and the like. It is me and my preference. But the scenes are well written. Richly explicit and spicy enough to make even a braver reader than myself blush…

If you want to enter a raw and dark world, where secrets and passion are intertwined. A world where emotions run wild as danger approaches. Then take Deception by K. Webster, a dark and twisted story that will consume you from the very first lines.
